UU Climate Justice Revival Worship Service & Original Song

Throughout religious history, revivals have marked periods of resurgence in people’s commitment to their faith traditions.  Classic American tent revivals took people out of the four walls of the church and into the world.  They brought the community together and served as a galvanizing force for the future, often during times of great change or anxiety.

In the midst of overlapping climate crises and mounting social injustice, we are in a time of great change and profound anxiety.  Taking a note from those who have gone before us, the UUA Climate Justice Revival is meant to be a time to come together and re-commit.  As we have framed it in these materials, this may be time to re-imagine a way forward for Climate Justice in your congregation as it relates to a changing world.  Though we may not be gathering in a tent or under the stars, we invite you to bring the revival spirit to your worship together.

Disrupt and reimagine your liturgy for this Revival.  Get each other’s attention.  Show up in a new way.

Revival worship should feel big, bright, and bold.  We might understand joy to be a profound act of resistance. We might add a dose of playfulness to the righteousness of our cause.  Feel something in the space you create together this Climate Revival Sunday and let that re-commitment carry you and your congregation together toward a new way of living our climate and justice commitments  — Rev. Nancy McDonald Ladd, Director of Communications and Public Ministry, UUA

We hope you’ll use this worship guide to make the worship service your own.  You don’t have to follow it word for word.  You can build in elements you use every Sunday.  Again, make it big, bright and bold!

Original Song

We are thrilled to offer a song written just for this occasion by Lea Morris and Adam Podd.  “Part of It”allows us to sing together and embody our commitment to reimagining a new era.  We hope your choir, ensemble, or even a soloist will perform it.  If you’re using the recording, sing along to the chorus!
