Recording: Poll Workers Wanted: Info Session with Power the Polls
Hundreds of UUs have served as poll workers and election defense volunteers—roles that are critical to protecting access to the ballot. Our partners at Power the Polls remind us that communities across the country are facing a shortage of poll workers, which can reduce the number of polling places available and create longer lines and other barriers for voters.
Poll workers also shape voters’ experiences at the polls. A positive interaction can help ensure that someone feels welcomed, supported, and confident participating in future elections. Election defense volunteers provide another critical layer of protection. They can help voters who are turned away get the information they need to cast a ballot, while also feeding information about problems at polling sites into a national network of lawyers and organizers who can respond quickly.
Each election, UU the Vote reaches millions of voters. Let’s make sure those voters can exercise their right to cast a ballot and that our communities have the people and infrastructure needed to protect that right.
